LSU Stacks Quarterbacks as Transfer Portal Run Continues
LSU football is stacking quarterbacks again, and this time the latest addition comes with a five star pedigree and a “playmaker” label that fits today’s SEC reality. Former USC quarterback & Texas A&M commit, Husan Longstreet is headed to Baton Rouge after one season with the Trojans, giving the Tigers another high ceiling option in a room that is already crowded with experience and upside.
Another Big Arm, Another Big Bet for LSU
College and pro football analyst Mike Detillier says Longstreet put up monster numbers in high school, throwing for 8,500 yards and 83 touchdowns in California. That production is part of what makes the pickup feel like more than a depth move.

Detillier’s quick scouting report is simple and pretty loud: “He’s a playmaker, on the move. That’s his biggest strength.” He also called Longstreet an accurate passer, which matters when you are trying to survive a full season in a league where one injury can flip the whole year.
What “Stacking” Looks Like in Baton Rouge
Longstreet joins a quarterback room that already includes Sam Leavitt, the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, plus Landen Clark, an FCS All American at Elon. In other words, LSU is not collecting bodies. LSU is collecting options.

Detillier summed up the roster building approach like this: “Big pick up for Lane Kiffin now, to solidify his quarterback room.” The bigger point for LSU fans is what “solidify” really means in 2026. Coaches want multiple quarterbacks who can win games, not just hold a clipboard.
Insurance, Mobility, and the Injury Factor
Detillier says Longstreet also provides protection if Leavitt’s recovery from surgery on a Lisfranc injury in his right foot takes longer than expected. Mobility is part of that insurance policy too: “He can throw the pass off the waggle and also, if that guy’s not there, he’ll take off running with it downfield.”
LSU’s portal momentum is showing up in the rankings as well, with 247Sports listing the Tigers’ 2026 transfer portal class as the best in the country.
