Hurricane season is upon us, and after 2021's wild and violent batch of storms really tore up the state - it's good to see that we have learned a few lessons.

According to WDSU, one of those lessons is how well we prepare nursing homes and retirement facilities from the impacts of these ferocious storms.  When storms like 2021's Hurricane Ida pound the Sportsman's Paradise, they bring flooding, high winds, tornadoes, and more to the party.  Those aspects of the storm each pose a unique threat to residents, especially in group medical situations.  The key issue is electrical power.

It's absolutely crucial to keep the most vital machines working in a place like this.  Some of the residents very lives depend on it.  On top of that, our elderly citizens can't handle days on end with no air-conditioning - especially in the Louisiana Heat!

Now, a bill requiring these types of group medical homes to install generators to provide adequate electrical power in case of a blackout or storm related power loss has made it through the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.  It is now on its way to Governor John Bel Edwards desk for a signature before it becomes an official law.

50+ Pictures of Shreveport's Abandoned Historic Fairgrounds Field

Before you know it, Shreveport's historic Fairgrounds Field will be will be exactly that - history. Once the legal wrangling is done, the proverbial endangered-bat-guano will hit the fan and the once glorious Ratchet-City cathedral to baseball will be demolished and gone.

Before it "bats" its final inning, let's take a final look at the glory that once was. I warn you though, it's kind of like seeing that super-hot girl from high school 20 years later - and time has not been kind.
