In what has been predicted as an extremely active upcoming hurricane season, the second named storm hit the Texas coast as a Category 1 hurricane early on Monday.  Hurricane Beryl brought heavy rain, high winds, and killed at least three people, and leaving millions without power in Texas before weakening to a tropical depression.

Beryl moved up in a Northeastly direction bringing rain and storms into the Arklatex on Monday, prompting an astonishing 67 tornado warnings throughout our area on Monday.  According to a recent story in USA Today, Beryl produced a record breaking  total of 113 tornado warnings across its path.

National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Knapp told KEEL News on Thursday their most recent surveys have confirmed 19 tornado touchdowns in the Arklatex.  Areas that were hit particularly hard included Desoto parish, including Converse, LA and east of Mansfield, LA.

Knapp said some of the touchdowns could be due to one tornado touching down, then lifting back up and moving some distance and touching back down, but are counted as separate tornados.

That's something our investigative crews really investigated that the possibility that these tornados quickly touchdown, they lift back up off the ground for a couple miles, and then they drop back down again.  If that's the case, if it's a couple of miles before that tornado touches back down again then it's a separate tornado.
