Just in case you were planning a business trip or vacation to the Midwest anytime soon, you may want to make alternate plans. As COVID virus numbers begin to spike once again due to the new Delta variant strain, the Chicago Department of Public Health added Louisiana to its travel advisory watch list.

Louisiana joins Florida, Nevada and the US Virgin Islands on the list of origins on the advisory list, meaning that unvaccinated people traveling to the Windy City are advised - but not required - to obtain a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Chicago or quarantine for 10-days upon arrival in Chicago.

Missouri and Arkansas were put on the list last week after those states easily surpased the limit of 15 cases per day, per 100,000 residents.

In a public statement, the city's Department of Public Health said that all travelers, no matter if they are making a connection at the city's airport or taking Chicago's public transit system, are required to comply with all local and federal masking guidelines. Masks are still required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation. The CDPH emphasizes that transportation hubs - airports, train and bus stations, etc., are included in the mandate.
