As a nonprofit serving abused children since 1998, the Gingerbread House is on the front lines of battling child sex trafficking, and the statistics are chilling:

  • In 2021, the Gingerbread House conducted forensic interviews with 9 confirmed child sex trafficking victims and 81 children at-risk for sex trafficking.
  • The average age of child sex trafficking victims served by the Gingerbread House is 14 to 17 years old, but the youngest victim of child sex trafficking they helped in 2021 was 5 years old.

Child sex trafficking affects boys and girls, as well as those who identify as transgender or LGBTQ, and the child doesn't have to be taken across state lines for it to be a crime. Here in the Shreveport-Bossier area, the Gingerbread House sees many different types of trafficking, including familial trafficking in which a family member is trafficking the child.

Education is an important part of prevention, though. The Gingerbread House can help you learn warning signs and how to properly report suspected child sex trafficking. So many children are groomed through social media and other internet resources that you should have an understanding of the games and apps your children use.

The Gingerbread House is here to help. Contact them today for free Child Sex Trafficking and Internet Safety prevention education sessions available to anyone in NWLA. You can learn more at gingerbreadhousecac.org or by calling 318-674-2900.
