Following the Russian military invasion of Ukraine earlier this week, folks across the country, especially those in the Shreveport and Bossier City area, are wondering what they can do to help the everyday people in Ukraine who suddenly find their lives tragically altered.

With so many charities, organizations, et al, promising to help, a website called Charity Navigator has put together a list of some of a number of top-rated nonprofits that are leading relief efforts for the people in the now war-torn Ukraine.

In describing themselves on their website, website, Charity Navigator "helps charitable givers make intelligent giving decisions" by providing both reviews and analysis of the America's largest charities.

The organizations evaluated have all earned high marks for their financial efficiency, clarity and transparency about their operations. According to Charity Navigator, here are the best non-profits already assisting in recovery efforts in Ukraine and the nearby stricken areas.

Save the Children says that "children in Eastern Ukraine have grown up in conflict for the past eight years, enduring violence, shelling and displacement. Their assessment of the current situation? Without immediate de-escalation, there will be devastating consequences for families." According to Charity Navigator, 85% of all donations go to the victims in troubled areas.

Project HOPE posts on their site that the Russian invasion will, almost immediately, make hundreds of thousands homeless. And they report that access to basic needs, health care and more are now in jeopardy. The Better Business Bureau says that 87% of contributions to Project HOPE go to those in need.

Global Giving promotes its goal as selfless charity work in the public interest. Global Giving is another Better Business Bureau approved organization. Since the Russian military attacked Thursday, they've set up the Ukraine Crisis Relief fund, with a goal of raising $3 million. Monies raised will go to Ukrainian refugees, providing food, shelter, water and medical assistance.
