The Shreveport Police Department lost a special man on this date 32 years ago.
On April 10, 1994, Corporal James Silva was killed in the line of duty when an eastbound vehicle turned left in front of his westbound unit at Greenwood Road and Curtis Lane. Silva was responding to a shooting call.
JJ Silva was just 31 years old.

Shreveport Police Posted This Message:

"For 9 years and 6 months, Corporal Silva served this city with dedication, courage, and heart. The year prior to his passing, he was recognized for helping save an entire family from carbon monoxide poisoning—a true reflection of the kind of officer and man he was."
Silva left behind his wife and two daughters.
SPD hopes residents will pause a moment today to remember this hero.

This event honors the member of two other officers lost in the line of duty, Ron Dean and Dewayne Williams. This event is more than just a race — it’s a reminder of every officer who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our community. The memorial event is coming up on April 18.
