State Senator Greg Tarver talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty on the chances of the House Appropriations Committee budget for Louisiana making its way through the legislature and becoming law.

Tarver tells KEEL listeners that the state budget, recently approved by the committee will "destroy LSU med school." Tarver, who sits on the Senate Finance Committee, says members of that group "did not divide (available money) as equally as possible for higher education, for healthcare and TOPS." The House committee fully funded the state's TOPS college tuition assistance program, while choosing to cut money for Louisiana's peublic-private partnership hospitals and state colleges.

Tarver adds that he is for the funding of TOPS, but says, "But you have to make a choice when you only have a limited amount of money. I put my values on human beings before I put my values on anything else."
