Friends, family, coworkers and many others will remember Shreveport City Marshall Charlie Caldwell Jr. this Friday.

Caldwell died in a tragic boating accident in Destin, Florida earlier this month. He was in a boat when he apparently leaned over to retrieve his hat that had fallen in the water. That's when he slipped and fell overboard near Crab Island in Destin. Caldwell went under the water and did not resurface. According to a statement released by the U.S. Coast Guard, he was not wearing a lifejacket.. His body was recovered two days later by a kayaker in the Gulf of Mexico.

Caldwell served as Shreveport City Marshal since May 2008. He is survived by four children. Caldwell has most recently served as a board member of the North LA Crime Lab and Crime Stoppers.

Here Are Details of Services for Caldwell:

Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Summer Grove Baptist Church located at 8924 Jewella Avenue in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Visitation is Thursday, June 30th from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.. The memorial service is Friday, July 1st at 11 a.m.. Interment will follow the memorial service at Centuries Memorial.

Chief Deputy James Jefferson was sworn in to fill Caldwell's position as City Marshal. The Shreveport City Council is expected to call a special election for March of next year for residents to choose a new City Marshall.
