For the next week, a lot of fireworks will be lit in Shreveport and Bossier City, and local fire and police departments are urging residents to do it safely.  First and foremost, buy your fireworks from established and reputable retail outlets.  Don't let children handle them alone.  Never shoot or throw fireworks at people or animals.  Keep a garden hose and a bucket of water nearby -- just in case.  Don't try to re-ignite fireworks that haven't discharged.  Matter of fact, it's recommended that you wait about fifteen minutes and then douse them in water.  And remember -- you can only shoot fireworks between noon and 10pm in Shreveport -- 10 to 10 in Bossier.  After New Years, you won't be able to shoot them again until just before the Fourth of July.
