
Tragic House Fire Claims Life of 75-Year-Old Woman in Coushatta
Tragedy in Coushatta to begin the New Year. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office has confirmed the death of a woman in a house fire over the weekend.
When and Where Did Fatal Fire Happen
Firefighters were called to a home in Red River Parish at about 9:15 Saturday morning. They found the home on Abney Street engulfed in flames. Red River Fire District crews report a 75-year-old Coushatta woman died in the blaze. Her 43-year-old son was treated for smoke in elation and survived.
What Caused the Fatal Fire in Coushatta
Investigators do not yet know the exact cause of the blaze, but they do report the home did not have a working smoke alarm at the time of the fire. The State Fire Marshal is using this tragic to remind residents across Louisiana of the life saving importance of working smoke alarms.
DPS principal assistant chief Brian Adams says "fire related deaths are always devastating and many are preventable. Working smoke alarms provide families with the critical early warning needed to escape safely."
Chief Adams adds "through our Operation Save a Life Program, we offer free smoke alarms, and installations to help ensure every household has this essential protection.
