US Senator John Kennedy finally admitted on Monday that he's considering entering the upcoming race for Louisiana Governor.  Bernie Pinsonat, a political analyst, thinks Democrat victories in the Senate might influence Senator Kennedy's decision.

“I think we’re seeing Kennedy taking a look at the choice of being a senator or  coming home and being a very powerful governor with a Republican legislature,” said Pinsonat.

Monday's announcement though only ensconsed the Louisiana Republican Party's endorsement of Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry.  They issued a formal statement endorsing Landry... after the news outlets reported on the endorsement last week.

But some believe the party's endorsement was premature. Consultant Roy Fletcher was quoted:

“I think maybe they should have picked up the phone, they have those instruments now where you can talk to people without seeing them, or you can see them, while you’re talking to them. They should have picked up the phone and talked to him,” said Fletcher.

Kennedy was just re-elected to the senate with 62 percent of the vote, which Pinsonat says sets Kennedy up well to be the leading candidate for governor.

“The names that are being bandied about are not comparable political figures as John Kennedy is statewide,” said Pinsonat.

Here is Kennedy's statement:

“I’ve spent my life and career serving the people of Louisiana. Becky and I raised our family here and are so proud to call it home. But we can’t deny that our great state is facing serious challenges. To meet those challenges, Louisiana families deserve a governor who can lead our state and help solve our toughest problems.

“Over the last year, Louisianians have asked me time and time again to come home to serve as governor during these difficult times. Becky and I love the people of Louisiana. We’ve always listened to them, so I am giving serious consideration to entering the governor’s race. I’ll be announcing my decision soon.”
