The checks will be conducted by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians who will offer advice and hands-on child safety seat inspections for free.  The event, which is part of the “National Child Passenger Safety Week” initiative, will take place at the Caddo Parish Health Unit located at 1035 Creswell Avenue in Shreveport from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Child safety seats and booster seats save lives.  When installed properly, they offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash.  During the past 30 years, approximately 8,959 lives have been saved by the use of child restraints according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  It is very important that caregivers ensure children are properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat, booster seat, or seat belt—every trip, every time.

Participating agencies include Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Police Department, Louisiana State Police Troop G, Louisiana State University Health Science Center Children’s Hospital, and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

Every Louisiana State Police troop is recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a child safety seat “Inspection Station”. Troop G troopers/technicians are available seven days a week to inspect car seats.  Appointments can be made by calling (318) 741-7411.
