The California Highway Patrol says multiple people have been injured in a shooting on a Greyhound bus in California. Fort Tejon CHP spokesman Rich Anthes couldn't tell news outlets the number of victims or their conditions after the early Monday shooting near Lebec in Kern County. The agency says the shooter was a passenger on the bus. The bus was heading north on Interstate 5. Further details weren't immediately released.

CNN reports 6 passengers on a Greyhound bus headed from Los Angeles to San Francisco were shot.

All six shooting victims were taken to hospitals, CHP spokesman Steve Loftus said.

Details on their conditions were not immediately available.

The shooting took place shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the Grapevine area, on Interstate 5 near Fort Tejon Road, Loftus said.
There were 40 passengers on the bus. One suspect has been taken into custody.
