Caddo Parish Schools Shift On Ten Commandments In Classrooms
A change of heart on moving forward with the Ten Commandments in Caddo Parish classrooms. The posters will be going up in all classes in the parish this spring.
Earlier this month, Caddo Superintendent Keith Burton told KEEL News
We’re making plans to have the required displays in place for the start of next school year. With a district our size, we want to implement it in an organized and consistent way across all campuses. Given the instructional disruptions we’ve had this year, we also didn’t want to add something new to teachers’ and principals’ plates during the final stretch of the school year. Implementing it over the summer allows us to do it efficiently without taking focus away from instruction.
But the directive has changed after action last week by BESE. The board adopted policy requiring the posting of the Ten Commandments in each classroom. Caddo parish is now supplying these posters to all schools in the parish.

The directive from Caddo says "Principals are responsible for ensuring that the displays are distributed and installed in classrooms on their campuses."
Principals are encouraged to "review this guidance with their leadership teams and ensure that the posters are displayed in accordance with state law."
All posters should be hung in Caddo classrooms no later than March 27, 2026.
Bossier schools have already started putting the posters in all classrooms.
But this is not likely the end of this legal feud. The ACLU has promised to sue the state on behalf of students and parents who object to this display.
