On April 22, 2012 at approximately 5:11 p.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 300 block of Albert Avenue relative to a ‘shots fired’ call.  Upon arrival there, 41 year old Michael Wilson of the 2200 block of Robson Road in Shreveport stated that 39 year old Dr. William Gibson, also of Shreveport had threatened suicide and then fired multiple rounds from a .357 handgun while inside the residence. Wilson informed officers that Gibson then forced him to leave the residence with him.  Wilson further stated that Gibson struck him in the face with the pistol while he was in his control.  Wilson stated that he was able to escape Gibson's capture when Gibson abruptly stopped the vehicle near the 3000 block of Gilbert Drive.

Violent Crimes Investigators were notified and responded to the residence.  There were no persons present at the Albert Avenue residence on investigators arrival.  Approximately two hours after officers left the residence, it was learned that Gibson had returned to the home.  Investigators, along with several patrol officers responded to the residence and attempted verbal and physical contact with Gibson.  Gibson refused to answer the door, but was seen inside the residence with two other unidentified individuals.

Multiple attempts to contact Gibson were unsuccessful, at which time Crisis Negotiators and Special Response Team members were called out.  Negotiators began attempting contact with Gibson.  During negotiations, Gibson surrendered peacefully and the two individuals inside the residence emerged unharmed.  Gibson refused to speak with investigators and did not offer any suggestions as to what may have led to tonight's events.  There were at least twenty-five firearms recovered from the residence along with several hundred rounds of ammunition.

The two individuals that accompanied Gibson in the residence were taken to the Detectives' office for interviews.  The two detained individuals provided extremely varying accounts regarding Wilson's alleged kidnapping. Gibson was taken into custody and transported to LSUHSC for psychological evaluation.  Additionally, Gibson will be charged with the Illegal Use of a Weapon.  The investigation into the alleged kidnapping is still ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
