Bossier City Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a husband and wife that occurred today at the couple’s residence in the 1300 block of Norris Drive.  Police were called to the scene just before 11 a.m. and upon entering the home located 51-year old Brenda Hampton and 45-year old John Hampton inside.  Each had sustained a single gunshot wound.

An investigation by Bossier City Police indicates Brenda Hampton was at the house with some relatives when John Hampton arrived and confronted her.  During the confrontation John Hampton reportedly shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.  None of the relatives who were inside the house were hurt.

Earlier today, at approximately 9 a.m., Bossier City Police received a call from Mrs. Hampton to have an officer come to the Norris Drive residence while she removed some items.  When the officer arrived a Bossier Parish Deputy was on the scene to serve a protective order against John Hampton filed this week by his wife, however he was not at there at the time.  The officers and deputy informed Mrs. Hampton that based on the terms of the protective order no property was to be removed from the house pending a court hearing next month however she could take some personal items. The officer and deputy left the residence with the deputy returning several minutes later to find no one at the residence.

Mrs. Hampton later returned to the house to remove items from the residence with the help of some relatives when her husband arrived just before 11 a.m. and committing the shootings.

Bossier City Police show one record of a domestic disturbance involving the couple.  It occurred in November of 2010 and reportedly did not involve violence or threats of physical harm.

Here's a Statement From The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office:

A female petitioner went to the Clerk of Courts Office at the Bossier Parish Courthouse in Benton on the morning of Tuesday, July 26, to obtain a temporary restraining order against her husband.  The Bossier Sheriff’s deputy who works as a process server, obtained the document Tuesday and attempted to serve the civil document at the residence listed on the document, 1306 Norris in Bossier City, on Tuesday afternoon.  No one was present at the residence.

The deputy contacted the petitioner Tuesday afternoon by phone while still at the residence to ask her another way to contact the defendant in order to serve him the civil document.  The petitioner provided the deputy with a phone number for the defendant, but she asked the deputy not to contact him nor serve the civil document until Friday morning in order to give her time to remove some of her personal items from the house and move into her apartment which was available Friday.  Based on the information given by the petitioner, which further established a need for the temporary restraining order not to be served until Friday, that request was granted.

The Bossier Sheriff’s deputy went to the residence at 1306 Norris around 9:00 a.m. Friday morning in an attempt to serve civil papers to the defendant residing there.

When the Bossier Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the residence at 1306 Norris Friday morning, she saw the petitioner removing some personal items from the residence.  The deputy informed the petitioner she was going to contact the defendant in order to serve him the civil document.  The deputy departed the residence around 9:15 a.m. to serve another civil paper.  When the deputy drove back by the residence of 1306 Norris a few minutes later, no one was present.

The deputy contacted the defendant on his phone, telling him she had some papers to deliver to him.  He asked her what type of papers, and the deputy told him she would explain in detail the specifics of the document in person, but informed him he wasn’t in any type of trouble.  He told the deputy he was at work in Shreveport, but was coming to Bossier City after lunch to get the civil document from her.

Shortly after that, the Bossier Sheriff’s Department was informed of the tragedy that had taken place at the residence of 1306 Norris.
