A fifth grader in North Carolina was punished with writing lines and a note sent home for calling his teacher Ma'am. ABC13 reports that the 10 year old who goes to North East Carolina Preparatory School kept saying yes ma'am to his teacher after she told him to stop. His father says that that's the way he raised his son to be respectful to adults and doesn't under stand the punishment.

The child's mom told ABC13 that he told her that the teacher also said during class that "if she had something, she would have thrown it at him." The teacher later admitted to the parents and principle that she had said that but didn't mean it.

The student by request from the parents has been assigned to a new class but no word from the school if any disciplinary actions were taken against the teacher. You can see the lines that the child had to write below..
