Two Injured in Shreveport Memorial Day Officer Involved Shooting
Early yesterday morning, Shreveport Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Commerce Street.
As SPD Officers forced their way through the crowd, they saw two groups of people actively shooting at one another.
Four SPD officers discharged their firearms causing the suspects fled the area. Shreveport Police took four people in to custody. Officers found several guns from the scene. One person suffered non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Another person was also taken to the hospital for a non-firearm-related injury.
Chief Wayne Smith immediately contacted the Louisiana State Police, who is handling the officer-involved part of the investigation. As is standard procedure, all four SPD Officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
From SPD:
"Thankfully, no Shreveport police officers were injured during the incident, and at this time there is no indication the officers acted outside of department policy. We are grateful to the Louisiana State Police for their continued support and assistance as this investigation moves forward."
