Event:   Almost every year in the state of Louisiana, hurricanes drive people from their homes in search of safety. The American Red Cross is in need of volunteers for the 2012 hurricane season to receive training in advance. The Red Cross will offer training statewide to prepare volunteers, including health professionals, to serve in shelters.

Date:               Saturdays, May 19, June 9 or July 14, 2012

Time:              9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Locations:      Local Red Cross chapters in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, New Orleans and Shreveport. In Shreveport, the training will be held at 805 Brook Hollow Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105 (next to Country Tavern).

Cost:               FREE

Register:     Register for training via the statewide webpage at www.tinyurl.com/LARedCross by clicking on the location and date that works best for you. The link will take you into the simple registration system. Click on New User at the top right of the page and fill out a short form. Last, click Place Order. There is no charge for disaster courses.

Volunteers:    American Red Cross volunteers are always there to help, but more volunteers are needed to provide care to those in crisis. Louisiana residents often will respond after a disaster, but it is critical to register and receive training in advance so that response is not delayed.
