A Bossier City woman talked her husband into shooting her so she could avoid military service. That's what Bossier City police say happened early this morning in the 1100 block of Clarence Street.

Detectives say Judy Groomes initially told police she was shot by an armed intruder, who confronted her inside the home while her husband and their two small children were asleep. She said the intruder fled out the back door.

Mrs. Groomes was taken to LSU Health with non-life-threatening wounds. Police learned that she had her husband shoot her so she could dodge deployment with the Air Force.

The 25-year-old has been charged with criminal mischief, and her 26-year-old husband Christopher, who is also an airman, was booked into the Bossier City Jail on a weapons charge.
