The release of the long-awaited Nintendo Wii U is set for Sunday, November 18, 2012 across Shreveport-Bossier. Those customers who ordered theirs in advance will be rushing to the stores to retrieve their purchase. However, those who didn't will find themselves fighting over the few systems on the shelves due to a limited supply.

Shaunta, an electronics representative at Super Target on Youree Drive in Shreveport, confirmed that the Wii U will be hard to come by this holiday season.

"There will be about 20 systems available to those who did not pre-order," she said. "The systems will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis." Other Target stores will have about the same, maybe even fewer available.

A Best Buy media relations department representative offered no insight as to the number of systems that would be available to the general public.

"Purchasing the system will be very difficult on Sunday due to the overwhelming amount of pre-order sales that took place," the rep explained. "Those orders must be fulfilled before the shelves can be stocked. The stores in [the Shreveport-Bossier] area are featuring an in-store demo for those who would like to check out the system."

Other stores in the area  launching the system on Sunday were less forthcoming with information, including GameStop, Walmart, K-Mart and Sears. When pressed on stock availability for the general public, the stores offered similar responses as those from Target and Best Buy: Few systems, high demand.

Most stores were not at liberty to comment directly, instead deferring to their Media Relations hotlines. Walmart neglected to comment altogether.

GameStop will be a little more limited in supply compared to big box and departments stores in the area due to demand. Translation: the likelihood of purchasing one of these systems before Christmas is not looking very promising.

The Nintendo Wii U will be available at a retail price of $299.99 for the 8GB system and includes a white console and 8GB of internal storage, one white touch-screen GamePad controller, AC adapters for both the console and controller, a sensor bar and an HDMI cable.

The Nintendo Wii U™ Deluxe Set will be available for $349.99, which includes a black console with 32GB of internal storage, all the same components from the basic set in black, a console stand, a GamePad stand and a GamePad charging cradle. Also included in the Deluxe set is the game "Nintendo Land."
