We Now Know When the Lights Will Go Out in Minden
Mayor Nick Cox Described Why This Is Needed
The Mayor informed residents of a problem with the system earlier this week. Cox informed residents that about 6:13 am Sunday morning, a fire broke out at Entergy's Gilark substation which caused a brief, city-wide power outage.
That was just the beginning of this mess, though. As Entergy officials examined the damage, they discovered that a transformer had exploded and will need to be repaired urgently.
Making matters worse is that the 115,000 volt Gilark substation is Minden's sole entry into the power grid. Power to the city will have to be turned off to make the repairs.
When Will the Repairs Be Done?
Officials from Entergy, AEP/SWEPCO, and the City of Minden met to talk about the plan to get the problem resolved. They have agreed to do a controlled power outage across the entire city on Thursday, August 3rd. This will begin at 10pm. The outage is expected to last between 4 and 6 hours.
