Caddo Parish students go back to school on Monday. We caught up with Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree to talk about what will be new for this year.

Dr. Goree says each school will have added security with more armed police officers on hand at local schools. He also says there will also be an increase in access to mental health and behavior support.

He is also excited to roll out the new Tier 1 curriculums which have been "vetted by the state and have been proven to truly be a key part of what we'll need to take our students to the next level."

The state is changing how schools are graded and Dr. Goree tells us this will likely mean lower letter grades for many schools. Right now, Caddo Parish only has 2 schools listed as failing. Those are Atkins and Queensborough. Both of those schools are in jeopardy of being taken over by the state if improvements are not made.
