What Is Phubbing and Is It Happening in Louisiana?
SHREVEPORT, LA - I just learned about something that happens to me on a regular basis. I bet it happens to you too. I really like to have one on one interaction with friends or co-workers. I even like to have real humans help me when I go shopping or out to an event.
But personal service has been declining for several years. I think it has a lot to do with the proliferation of social media and this digital world we live in. People no longer have the attention span to listen and respond to questions or concerns. They get distracted so easily.
Have You Ever Been Phubbed?
OK, you first want to know what phubbing is. Think of it as a combination of snubbing and phone. So many young people these days are "phubbers" and they don't even know it. What are they doing? They might be engaged in a conversation with you, but all of a sudden they grab their phone and start texting or looking at something else. They are completely oblivious to the fact that this rude.
It would translate to you engaged in a conversation with someone and another person walks up and you completely turn your attention to that person, almost turning your back on the first person you were talking to.
Do Phubbers Know What They Are Doing Can Be Seen as Rude?
Phubbing is rude, but the folks that do it don't even realize it's rude. They don't mean any harm, they are simply very attached and often dependent on that cell phone. It goes everywhere with them. Phubbers will get very nervous if you try to take their phone away for even 5 minutes. These are the folks that will turn around and drive back home if they forgot their phone when they leave for work in the morning.
