I have to admit... I can not pass a dog without stopping to pet it. I've come to learn that I think I like most dogs better than most people. There's a quote that's been attributed to Bill Murray, (though I can't confirm it's true), that says: "I never trust a person who doesn't like dogs, but I always trust a dog when he doesn't like a person." I wholeheartedly agree.

You've probably seen service dogs with harnesses that proclaim "Service Dog- Do Not Pet,"  I know they say dogs are bred to work and for service, but I always feel a little sorry for that dog, cause he can't get some "good lovin' on."  But I always respect the owner's wish not to approach their dog.

So you might be surprised to know that when you see a dog wearing a bandana, it might be more than just a fashion choice by the owner.  According to Shyface Bandanas, different colored bandanas might have a different color meaning.

Meanings of Different Bandana Colors

  • Red Bandana- Caution/Danger/Please give me space
  • Orange Bandana- Not Friendly with Other Dogs
  • Yellow Bandana- I’m nervous/unpredictable/do not pet/please give me space.  A yellow bandana is also sometimes used with adoption dogs looking for a new home
  • White Bandana- I’m deaf/blind
  • Green Bandana- I’m totally friendly
  • Blue Bandana- I’m in training or working/please don’t distract me

My wife and I adopted a dog from Caddo Animal Shelter a couple of years ago. She was already an adult and bad habits had already been established, but based on the list above, I'd have to get her a bandana that was red, orange, and yellow.
