Tempers Flare Over Shreveport Budget

The Shreveport City Council is beginning the budget process for next year and already tempers are flaring over funding for different departments.

Councilwoman Stephanie Lynch who is in a battle with Reverend James Green to hold on to her District F seat, has lots of questions about public works funding. She says too many projects in her district are being ignored and residents are not happy. Lynch also has concerns about staffing in the department and finding workers to fill the jobs.

She got into a heated discussion with Chief Administrative Officer Brian Crawford during this weeks' Council meeting. If you missed it, we share it with you here and give you our take on what's going on at City Hall.

Mayor Tyler writes this in her message to the Council about the budget:

In 2019, our principle priorities include:

• To continue serving citizens with a sense of urgency.

• To maintain funding consistent with the values and goals of the city’s Strategic Plan

• To continue providing quality services at an even higher level of performance and efficiency

• A continuation of services and subsidies to sustain other funds

She adds "With an assessment of several influencing factors, the 2019 budget was developed to continue to provide a high level of customer service while addressing our challenges."
