A Louisiana State Trooper is killed in what is described as an ambush attack.

This violent incident happened during what is described as a multi-parish fatal shooting spree that left two people dead and three others critically wounded.

The suspect, 31-year-old Matthew Mire, was taken into custody late Saturday night after a daylong manhunt.

Here's information released by State Police:

The preliminary investigation revealed that Master Trooper Adam Gaubert was ambushed by Mire as he sat in his fully marked patrol unit. The ambush of Trooper Gaubert occurred near a shooting that took place in the overnight hours of October 9, 2021. Mire is a person of interest in multiple shooting incidents in several parishes.

After the shootings, Mire was allegedly involved in a pursuit where he fired shots at a trooper who was chasing him. That trooper returned fire. The trooper was not hurt.

Louisiana State Police got assistance from Homeland Security Investigations, US Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, LA Department of Corrections, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office to hunt for Mire in an area southeast of Baton Rouge. Mire was transported to a hospital for injuries he suffered from a K-9 bite. He also had what's described as a self inflicted gunshot wound to his leg.

He is charged with first degree murder of a police officer and attempted first degree murder of a police officer. Arrest warrants are also pending in Baton Rouge for several charges.

Here's information State Police released about Trooper Gaubert:
