This winter blast could have a pretty big impact on the Shreveport-Bossier area. But as the forecast stands now, we won't be facing the same drastic conditions that could be blanketing southern Arkansas.

Richard Lewelling with the Weather Channel tells KEEL News "big snows are going to be across the border in Arkansas." For the Shreveport area, we will see lots of sleet and freezing rain.

The NWS Adds:
This situation changes drastically on Friday when rain is expected to transition into a "messy" wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet by the evening. The most significant impacts are forecast for Friday night into Saturday, where a high probability of ice accumulations exceeding a quarter inch could lead to power outages and hazardous travel. Residents should prepare for a prolonged deep freeze.
You definitely need to prepare for very cold weather. Temps are expected to drop into the teens and 20s and may remain below freezing for up to 60 to 70 hours. The Shreveport area is not expected to climb above the freezing mark until Tuesday afternoon.

What to Do Ahead of the Storm

Be sure you take care of the 3 P's. Wrap your pipes, get your pets out of the cold and cover any tender plants that are in your yard.
