Tiny Home Community Is Planned for Southwest Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, LA - A tiny home community is planned for a piece of residential property in southwest Shreveport. But area residents will have a chance to speak out about this planned development.
What Is the Purpose of this Tiny Home Community?
Faith and Fostering owns the current home at the site at 3248 Bert Kouns. This property is right across the street from Hope Community Church of God near Dean Road. The non profit group plans to tear down the existing home to build a tiny home community.
Faith and Fostering provides housing and support to young adults between the ages of 18-24 who need extra help living independently. The group serves a variety of young people who have aged out of the foster care system.
This property will serve young women and young women with children. This planned development will include all the support these young women need. There will be a chapel, a laundry center, recreational areas and a walking trail.
What Does this Agency Currently Do?
Faith and Fostering currently operates 2 other homes and 3 apartments in Shreveport. The clients will have safe, stable housing along with case management for planning and growth. Volunteers also help with transportation and weekly coaching sessions.
One of the goals of the program is to help these young people get a higher education.
When Is the Community Meeting?
There is a neighborhood meeting to hear concerns from residents about this planned development. You will be able to see the design plans submitted to the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) for a Small Planned Unit Development of a Group home & Social Service facility.
No official decisions will be made at the Neighborhood Meeting. There will be an MPC Board meeting at a later date to make a decision on this proposed development.
