The Shreveport Police, with the help of Shreveport Fire Department, have made major progress in the investigation of a house fire that killed two young children.

On Friday, Detectives were able to charge a 15 year-old male with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the fire.

After an intense and emotional investigation, detectives found that the teen, who was living in the home at the time of the fire was responsible for setting it. Police found out that just hours after the horrible fire, family members turned the teen over to his probation officer with Juvenile Probation and Parole. The teen was already wanted for prior crimes.

Investigators with SPD and SFD credit advanced technology and teamwork for helping bring this case to a close. They say the newly implemented Axon camera provided critical footage to help the investigative team determine what happened leading up to the fire. The dedicated team at The Gingerbread House Children’s Advocacy Center worked tirelessly to gather information and evidence from family members.

From Chief Wayne Smith:

“This was a heartbreaking case. Two innocent lives were lost, and our detectives refused to rest until answers were found. We’re thankful for the Fire Department’s partnership and the technological advancements that helped bring this investigation to a close.”

"The Shreveport Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ family. While nothing can undo this tragedy, we hope this arrest brings some measure of peace and closure."
