Shreveport Police Department’s Warrants Unit arrested a man following an investigation into allegations of unauthorized vehicle booting.

The investigation started after a man reported that his truck had been booted back in August while parked at Cracker Barrel, on Westport Avenue. The truck had a 16-foot trailer attached.

According to the victim, a sticker on his truck directed him to call a number to have the boot removed. The victim told SPD that he called and spoke with Don Cook Jr. and paid him $100 before Cook removed the boot.

During the investigation, Cracker Barrell management confirmed that neither the local restaurant or its corporate office had a contract with Cook or his business, Louisiana Traffic Services LLC, authorizing booting vehicles at that location. Investigators also learned of another reported incident involving similar activity at a separate location.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and Cook was taken into custody without incident in the 9200 block of Dean Road. He was transported to Shreveport City Jail.

Anyone who may have fallen prey to this scam is encouraged to let Shreveport Police know about it.

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department commends investigators and the Warrants Unit for their work in following up on this complaint and locating the suspect."
