Shreveport Man Arrested for Shooting at Police Officers
Earlier this week, Shreveport Police officers responded to the 4200 block of Markham Place to an armed person call.
While SPD was on the way to the scene, they were advised that a male suspect had fired a gunshot at a female at that location.
SPD found out that the suspect, Ardis Chism, was already wanted in connection with an attempted second-degree murder stemming from an incident in October 2025.
When Police got to the scene, the suspect opened fire, hitting two Shreveport Police cars. Officers returned fire, and the suspect fled the scene.
Assistance was called-in from the United States Marshals Service, which responded and worked with the Shreveport Police Department Special Response Team to help find Chism at a house on Greenbriar Drive.
Due to the suspect having already fired shots at Officers, the Shreveport Police Drone Team was activated, and the Bossier City Police Department was requested to provide an additional armored vehicle.
A shot time after locating him, Chism was taken into custody. During the arrest, SPD found out he had a gunshot wound to the leg, which detectives believe was sustained during the shootout with Police.
Chism has been charged with illegal use of a weapon and attempted second-degree murder. He now also faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Additional charges are expected.
No officers were injured during this incident.
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to our law-enforcement partners, including the United States Marshals Service, the Bossier City Police Department, and the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office, which also provided aerial support. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.
This investigation remains ongoing. As is standard protocol in incidents of this nature, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave. Preliminary findings indicate the officers’ actions were justified, appropriate, and consistent with their training and departmental policy."
