Shreveport Police Arrest Man for Shooting at SPD Officer
Yesterday, Shreveport Police were called out to an apartment complex on Southfield Road to reports of a Prowler. The caller said that someone was inside of his apartment.
When Police got to the scene, they began searching the area and found a man standing on the sidewalk. When the Officer shined a flashlight in the man's direction, he aimed a gun at the Officer and shot once in his direction. The Officer immediately took cover and called the other Officers to his location.
The suspect was identified as Glenn Garrett. Garrett turned out to be the person who called Police telling them someone was in his house. Garrett was safely taken in to custody, and no one was hurt. The gun was safely recovered.
Investigators found no evidence that anyone had broken in to Garrett's apartment. Garrett later admitted that he was the one who called 911 because he believed that someone had broken in to his apartment. He also admitted that he waited outside with the gun after the call and said he shot when he saw someone rounding the corner.
From SPD:
"Garrett was discovered to have an outstanding city warrant for property damage. In addition to that warrant, he was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer for this incident.
The officer involved displayed great restraint under extremely dangerous circumstances. The Shreveport Police Department is thankful that no one was injured."
