Shreveport Police Shoot and Kill Hostage-Taker During Tense Standoff
Shreveport Police Department were dispatched to an armed person call on West 77th Street.
When Officers got to the scene, they encountered a male suspect armed with a weapon and holding a female hostage outside a home, in the front yard.
SPD Officers tried to de-escalate the situation and secure the safe release of the victim, but the suspect refused to surrender to Police or release the female. Due to the threat posed to the victim, members of the Shreveport Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) were forced to take action.
The suspect was shot by an SPD Officer and was neutralized. He was then transported to Ochsner LSU Health with life-threatening injuries.
An investigation indicated this incident may have stemmed from a domestic-related situation. The female victim was rescued and did not sustain serious injuries.
The Louisiana State Police has responded to conduct an independent investigation into the Officer's use of force.
From SPD:
"At this time, the Shreveport Police Department has no reason to believe any Officer acted outside of department policy or the law."
Louisiana State Police later released a statement saying the suspect died from his injuries.
From LSP:
"One subject was shot and has been pronounced dead. No officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation. Further information will be released when it becomes available."
UPDATE: The Caddo Coroner has named the man who was shot and killed in the standoff as 53 year-old Lee Antoine Yarbore. He was pronounced dead at the hospital from fatal gunshot wounds.
The shooting marks Shreveport's 19th homicide to date in 2026.
