Shreveport High-School to Celebrate Major Renovations to Stadium
After not being able to use their huge stadium for sporting events in 2023, athletes at Captain Shreve High School will celebrate the full renovation of Lee Hedges Stadium.
The renovations began early last year, and was delayed several times for different reasons. Now, We Are Caddo and Willis Knighton Health have announced a celebration and tour of the newly renovated, historic stadium.
Junior Lee Hedges, the stadium's namesake passed away in July of last year. The stadium was named after Hedges to honor his accomplishments as a coach at Captain Shreve High School. Hedges was coach at Shreve from 1967-1984. n 18 seasons at Captain Shreve, Hedges' teams had a 146–52–4 (.733) record, with eight district championships (the first in 1970, the fourth year of the program). His 1971 and 1983 teams made it to the state semifinals.
A ribbon-cutting pep rally will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 9 at Lee Hedges Stadium to celebrate the completion of more than $4 million in renovations to the facility. Made possible by the generous support of Willis Knighton Health, the extensive renovations were designed to enhance the player and patron experience for those visiting Lee Hedges.
These renovations included:
• Renovated locker rooms that have doubled in size to better meet athlete needs
• Enhanced restrooms for both women and men
• Creation of family restrooms on both the home and visitor sides
• Updated water and shower stations throughout
To commemorate the renovations, the ribbon-cutting event will include student groups and coaches from schools that call Lee Hedges Stadium their home field.
