
Shreveport Takes Action Against Squatting in Local Neighborhoods
Several Shreveport neighborhoods have been the target of squatters. Vagrants often break into vacant homes and take shelter in these homes. But the Shreveport Police Department has stepped up efforts to crack down on squatters.
SPD says "We remain committed to taking proactive measures to address squatting and related offenses within our city."
A new anti-squatting ordinance went into effect on August 1 and officers have been busy enforcing this new ordinance.
Shreveport Police Recently Made Arrests for Squatting
Officers have arrested Cheryl Bales and Thomas Nelson. The were arrested for violating the new ordinance, which prohibits squatting in homes or buildings deemed unfit for habitation. In addition to the squatting charge, Nelson was also found to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
On August 4 officers arrested Harold Armor and Lisa James for violating the same ordinance.
Squatting Enforcement Will Continue in Shreveport
In a news release, police say "the Department will continue to strictly enforce this law in an effort to improve public safety and uphold the quality of life in all our neighborhoods."
