Police Respond To Armed Suspect In Vacant Shreveport Home
Shreveport Police officers responded to a prowler/suspicious person call on Ranch Lane.
When SPD got to the scene, Kris Chandler walked out of a vacant home with both hands in his jacket pockets. Officers gave clear commands to show his hands, and that’s when they spotted what appeared to be a handgun inside his pocket.
SPD tried to secure the situation, but Chandler’s behavior escalated. When officers attempted a pat-down for safety, he tried to pull away, reached toward the pocket with the gun, and resisted commands.
That decision could have cost him his life.
Officers took him to the ground, where he continued to resist. A Taser was deployed, bringing the situation under control and allowing officers to safely arrest him.
A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from his pocket.
Two officers walked away with minor injuries, including a busted lip. It could have been much worse.
Chandler is now facing the following charges:
· Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer
· Resisting with Force or Violence
· Negligent Carrying of a Handgun
· Criminal Trespassing
From SPD:
"Let this be clear: reaching for a weapon during an encounter with police is a decision that can turn deadly in seconds.
He’s lucky to be alive."
