The morning after Christmas, SPD Officers responded to a major crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on North Hearne Avenue.

Despite the quick response of the Shreveport Fire Department, who rendered immediate medical aid, the pedestrian died from her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The SPD Crash Investigations Unit was called and responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

Findings during the investigation indicate a Nissan was traveling northbound in the outside lane when it hit the pedestrian, who was walking in the roadway. At the time of the crash, the area was dark. The involved vehicle was impounded and towed as evidence.

The driver was taken to Ochsner LSU Medical Center, where a voluntary blood sample was obtained for submission. The pedestrian did not have identification, and next-of-kin notification has not yet been completed.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and took custody of the deceased.

From SPD:

"The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this crash remains ongoing. No citations have been issued at this time. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Shreveport Police Department."
