Shreveport Police Arrest Man for Negligent Shooting

Shreveport Police Department graveyard shift patrol officers responded to a reported shooting on Pierremont Road.

When SPD got to the scene, they located a male suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper part of his body. The victim’s condition was listed as serious and potentially life-threatening at the time of the shooting. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital for treatment.

Officers learned the shooting had actually occurred at a home on Willard Avenue. Officers responded to that location, secured the scene, and transported several witnesses to the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit for interviews.

During the investigation, detectives found out that Cesar Lopez had been handling a revolver in a negligent manner when the firearm discharged, accidentally shooting the victim.

SPD got a search warrant for the Willard Avenue home and found out Lopez may also be connected to another residence.

Lopez’s vehicle was found on Drexel Drive. After family members contacted him, Lopez exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Shreveport Police Department for questioning.

"Following the investigation, Cesar Lopez was arrested and charged with Illegal Carrying and Discharge of Weapons (LA R.S. 14:94). He was later booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Investigators remain hopeful that the victim will recover from his injuries.
