Shreveport Man Pleads Guilty to Shooting a Man During a Robbery
A Shreveport man has pleaded guilty in Caddo Court for trying and failing to rob a man two years ago.
Back in 2023, the victim in this case encountered 21 year-old Zechariah Carl Stutts while leaving a local Family Dollar. Stutts pulled a gun on the victim and demanded the keys to their car.
The victim tried running away from Stutts and tried to get back inside of the store, when Stutts shot the gun, striking the victim in the backside. Stutts continued shooting, missing all the other shots, before running away. Police were able to find him shortly after the shooting, and he was arrested.
After the jury for this case was selected, Stutts changed his plea from not-guilty to guilty-as-charged of attempted armed robbery. When Stutts returns to court in December for sentencing, he is facing a maximum sentence of 49 years in prison at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
From the Caddo DA:
"Assistant District Attorneys Ashlin Thomas and Chase Burgess prosecuted the case. Stutts was represented by the Caddo Parish Public Defender's office.
The case was docket No. 393798."
