You might not know it, but you have chemicals in your house that could be very hazardous to the environment if you just throw them away. They may be things that you wouldn't even consider dangerous, like old batteries, leftover paint, thermometers that contain mercury, and a number of other items are potential dangers. That's why Shreveport Green is hosting Hazardous Household Waste Disposal events throughout the year to help safely dispose of these products.

The next two HHW Disposal events will be held August 13, 2016 and September 17, 2016. You must make a reservation, and when the reservation is confirmed, the location will be provided. NO HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE SHOULD BE DROPPED OFF AT SHREVEPORT GREEN OFFICE! You can make a reservation by calling 318-219-1888 ext 12 or (318) 219-1888 ext. 14 up to two days before the date of collection.

MATERIALS ACCEPTED:

  • Used oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, oil filters, brake fluid and similar automotive products
  • Latex and oil-based paints and stains, paint thinner, and paint solvents. Containers of dried paint can be safely discarded in regular garbage.
  • Flammable hydrocarbon products like gasoline and solvents
  • Cleaning products including acids, bases, bleach, and furniture polish
  • Mercury batteries, switches and thermometers and non-metallic mercury
  • Household batteries- alkaline and NiCad
  • Intact heating/cooling thermostats
  • Automobile/Marine batteries
  • Tires
  • Aerosols
  • Fluorescent and CFB lamps
  • Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides
  • Ammunition, explosives, flares, or fireworks

MATERIALS NOT ACCEPTED:

  • Materials in leaking or improper containers
  • Household fire alarms and smoke detectors
  • Gas Cylinders
  • Household fire extinguishers
  • Radioactive materials
  • Furniture
  • Electronics
