The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) continues its rigorous efforts to combat illegal firearm possession and drug-related offenses. SPD patrol officers successfully apprehended three felons in separate incidents on June 9th.

First Arrest: Lazavieyon Thomas

· Location: Hearne Avenue and Meadow Avenue

· Time: Just after midnight

· Incident: Officers conducted a traffic stop after Thomas failed to use his turn signal before changing lanes. Upon being asked to exit the vehicle, Thomas refused. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm firearm under the driver’s seat. Thomas was arrested for resisting arrest and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Second Arrest: John Ford

· Location: 6500 block of Kennedy

· Age: 43 years old

· Incident: Ford was found in a suspicious vehicle and was discovered to have a firearm and multiple narcotics in his possession. He was arrested and charged with:

o Trespassing

o Being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm

o Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

o Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics

o Illegal use of a weapon

Third Arrest: Jeffrey Collins

· Age: 57 years old

· Incident: Officers arrested Collins for driving under the influence. Further investigation revealed that Collins was in possession of a firearm and narcotics. He was charged with:

o Being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm

o Driving while intoxicated (DWI)

o Possession of marijuana

The Shreveport Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to removing illegal firearms from the streets and addressing drug-related crimes. The SPD will continue its proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the community.
