SHREVEPORT, LA – Friday night was a busy one for Shreveport police. They set up a DWI checkpoint on the Clyde Fant Parkway just south of Stoner Avenue. Officers from SPD’s Traffic Bureau conducted the checkpoint.

The officers stopped dozens of car during the operation which was funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) DWI Grant. The goal of this program is to reduce impaired driving and enhancing roadway safety.

DWI is a serious problem in Shreveport. SPD made more than 600 DWI arrests in each of the past 2 years. In fact, Shreveport leads all of the major cities in the state for DWI arrests. Leaders in the department say they are “committed to keeping our roads safe and will continue efforts to prevent impaired driving through enforcement and public awareness initiatives.” They are working to “enhance roadway safety and protect motorists from the dangers of impaired driving.”

Police do plan to conduct more sobriety checkpoints in the future in Shreveport.
