Last week, a Shreveport woman was excoriated for the lack of cleanliness in her apartment and she was arrested by police after they responded to the home. She was arrested on criminal charges of child neglect when DCFS determined the home to be "unsafe".
But after an online firestorm the Caddo District Attorney has rejected the charges against Calninitri White. The police report says the home was infested with roaches and the children were removed from the home.
But White was able to show she had reported the bug problem to the apartment manager several times.
White posted this message on social media:
If you know me and my babies in real life, you know the truth: they are well-fed, joyful, and beautifully groomed. I believe in not looking like what you’re going through. No matter how hard things get, I make sure the world sees sunshine on our faces — never the storm behind it.
She was arrested on three counts of criminal neglect of family. Now D.A. James Stewart has declined to prosecute the case.
The D.A. issues this statement:
"We were provided proof that Ms. White, an employed single mother of three small children, submitted three requests for service in the year 2025 to her apartment management, regarding insect problems inside the apartment."
Stewart says "no drugs or firearms were found inside the apartment, nor any injuries on the children. Help from volunteer community agencies for this family provides the best resolution of this matter.”

White also says
“If I were truly neglecting my children, I would have chosen the streets — with no stove to cook on, no bed for them to sleep in. That would have been true neglect. But instead, I acted proactively, exhausted every option available to me, and did everything in my power to keep them safe and stable.”
Several local leaders stepped up to support White including State Rep Steven Jackson who has contacted officials about her case. He says it's the landlord and the property owner who should be facing charges.
