Shreveport Changes Downtown Liquor Laws
The Shreveport City Council voted and passed a new ordinance that will allow bars and restaurants in a designated area on Texas Street to serve alcohol outside. The new law will allow businesses to serve to patrons sitting outside in what the city calls a cafe style setting. People, however, will not be able to leave the business with their drinks.
The council also passed an amendment that makes it easier for businesses to obtain permits for outdoor festivities that serve alcohol. Councilman Jeff Everson, who was a big supporter of the measures, says this will help bring a sense of vibrancy to an area that has struggled for years.
The Council is also considering 'Go Cups' that would allow open containers and alcohol consumption in certain areas of downtown. However, officials wants to study how other cities handle and regulate before passing a similar measure here.
