Shreveport Machine Shop Employee Arrested for Stealing Metal
Earlier this month, Shreveport Police officers responded to a theft report at McMillan Mechanical & Machine, Inc., on Simms Street.
The complainant from the machine shop told SPD that surveillance footage showed his employee, Gregory Manuel, taking brass and copper materials from the business without permission. The stolen metal was valued at around $1,500.
SPD Detectives started an investigation, and found that just under 30 minutes after the theft occurred, Manuel made a transaction at General Scrap on McNeil Street just over one mile away. The scrap facility confirmed that Manuel sold 115 pounds of clean yellow brass matching the description of the stolen metals.
A warrant for Manuel's arrest was obtained and signed, with no bond issued as theft over $1,000 is a felony. SPD ran the suspect's background and found that Manuel has an extensive criminal history that includes 27 prior arrests in Louisiana, with convictions for theft, burglary, domestic violence, drug-related offenses, resisting an officer, and escape between 2009 and 2023.
Earlier this week, the Shreveport Police Department, in collaboration with the Special Response Team (SRT) and the U.S. Marshals, were able to catch up with Manuel at his home and arrest him without incident. He was transported to the Shreveport City Jail for processing.
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department would like to thank all agencies and personnel who assisted in this investigation and arrest."
