Shreveport Police Arrest Habitual Offender for Theft and Fraud
The Shreveport Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a vehicle burglary that resulted in stolen bank card use at several businesses.
Last year, SPD took a report from a victim who stated that, at around 10:00 a.m., he left his vehicle parked at his place of business located at the Jewella Avenue Turbo Car Wash. During that time, an unknown man got in to the unlocked vehicle and removed the victim’s wallet.
During the investigation, SPD determined the victim’s bank card was fraudulently used seven times at separate businesses. Investigators ended up identifying David Lee Thomas as the offender in this incident. At one of the businesses, Thomas used the bank card to buy a new cell phone at the victim’s expense.
Detectives made several attempts to contact Thomas. When that didn't work, an arrest warrant was obtained. Thomas was arrested and charged with:
· Simple Burglary
· Theft (Habitual)
· Seven counts of Access Device Fraud
From SPD:
"Thomas has an extensive criminal history, including 49 prior arrests, which consist of multiple burglary, theft, trespassing, forgery, and drug-related offenses. He has been convicted of theft on four separate occasions and currently has active warrants related to additional property crimes.
The Shreveport Police Department continues to aggressively investigate property crimes and reminds citizens to always secure their vehicles and remove valuables to help prevent theft."
