Also this weekend, more than 1,000 turkey breasts were handed out at Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral on Greenwood Road in Shreveport. Pastor, Bishop Larry Brandon donated many of the turkeys, but his church members also stepped in to make this giveaway possible.

It was a drive-thru giveaway and cars were lined up before the giveaway started. All of the turkeys were handed out in the first hour of the giveaway at the church.

Experts say 1 in 6 families in the United States is having trouble feeding their families during this pandemic and many are turning to food banks and churches for help.

Another way you can help feed those in need is a program with the local libraries.

Shreve Memorial Library is collecting non perishable food items and in exchange, your late fees will be waived. The food will be donated to the local food bank to help those in need.

The library system’s "Food for Thought Amnesty Drive" continues through December 23rd.
