Today, just after 11:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash just south of Athens in Claiborne Parish.  A Ruston man was killed in the crash.

According to investigating Troopers, 52-year-old Jimmie Richardson was traveling north on LA 154 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle approached a hill and curve to the right.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle continued straight in the curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway.

Richardson, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was partially ejected after the vehicle struck a tree, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Claiborne Parish Coroner.

Although impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, routine toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troop G Troopers have investigated 4 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, which resulted in 4 fatalities.
